Friday Favourite: Rebecca French Illustration

This week's favourite is illustrator Rebecca French. Her blog is full of exciting posts about travels around the world as well as her latest illustration work (including her Secret 7" illustration, take a look!).

Rebecca has also just opened an Etsy shop where you can purchase prints of her detailed illustration work. Here's a bit of a peek into how Rebecca creates her illustrations...

Describe your creative process… do you keep sketchbooks or mood boards?

As far as mood boards go I have started to create digital mood boards when working on a more detailed straight forward piece but I keep the big pin board above my desk constantly filled with images I’ve ripped out of magazines or collected on my travels to keep me inspired.
Sketchbook wise I find due to the nature of my collage work I have to draw roughs first as I hate wasting my collage papers. I then work them up in a sketchbook and collage either directly on top of them or trace from them. If I have something more detailed then I’ll usually work it up to a certain stage in the sketchbook and then finish it digitally.

What is your desk or work space like?
I’m lucky that this is probably the biggest workspace I’ve had in years. Having a place where
my elk skull and big cutting board fit comfortably makes me very happy indeed!

·        What are your must-read blogs?
I’m a blog junkie!  I read a hefty amount of fashion blogs but my new favourite is
      The Imaginist ( .
      Illustration wise my favourites are
Booooooom ( ) ,
MyLoveForYou  ( ),
Becca Stadtlander ( ,
Yelena Bryksenkova ( ,
Maximum Deliciousness (my illustration penpal Kelly Kwang’s blog)(
and flower stylist Amy Merrick ( )

Which piece of work or item in your shop are you most pleased with?
I’m most pleased with my piece Shop Parade. All the elements of it just seem to work so nicely together and it has a kind of mood that I feel like I’m always chasing.

·        What are your favourite shops for handmade items? and (it’s currently down but Justin makes illustrated tights which I love!)

Stacie Swift Illustration loves animals... Do you have any pets?
My black spaniel Max unfortunately passed away last year but I recently got to look after my Uncle’s pug cavalier cross Betty. And she’s pretty amazing.
